What is chemical peeling?

Chemical peeling is a modern skin care and aesthetic procedure, used worldwide, for its extraordinary results. By exfoliating and applying a beneficial cocktail of acids on the skin, in a personalized way, the chemical peeling has a real effect of “reset”, of skin rejuvenation.

A chemical peel helps to regenerate the skin, which also regains its health, firmness and suppleness. Any skin type can benefit from the effects of a chemical peel, regardless of the patient’s age.

The chemical exfoliation performed at AVRA Institute is safe and effective, adapted to each need, and offers formulas suitable for a wide range of skin conditions. The chemical exfoliation of the skin is administered exclusively by authorized specialists.

In Dermatology, from the point of view of the evolution of facial chemical peeling methods, there are three types of peeling being used, depending on the depth to which it acts, on the skin:

1. Superficial chemical peeling: this type of peeling can penetrate a part of the epidermis (the first layer of the skin), depending on the acids used and their concentration.

2. Medium chemical peeling: affects the entire epidermis and may even exceed the dermo-epidermal junction (the boundary between the first and second layers of the skin).

3. Deep chemical peeling: penetrates to the middle or deep dermis, and is no longer used today, due to difficult and long recovery periods  and high risk of side effects.

Regarding the composition of chemical peels, it includes various acids: AHA (glycolic, lactic), BHA (salicylic acid), TCA- trichloroacetic acid. The depth to which they will penetrate the skin is influenced by the concentration of acids, the pH of the skin, the time of action or the combination of several types of acids in the peeling solution.

At Avra Institute clinic, for the comfort of patients, superficial chemical peels are used and performed in protocols of 3-4 sessions, at intervals of 3 weeks. This protocol is the safest, having the shortest recovery period and the lowest risk of side effects.

When is a chemical peel recommended?

From time to time, due to environmental factors and the natural aging process, the skin may suffer from various problems, losing its youthful appearance and radiance, which adds years to your face. Although chemical facial peeling is very popular and appreciated among Avra Institute patients, the chemical peeling method can also be used on other areas of the body, such as the back and décolleté, not just the face.

You may need a chemical facial peel when you notice visible aging of the skin, as well as acne, dilated pores, hyperpigmentation and other sensitive skin conditions.

For each skin type and problem there is a special treatment formula, which increases the rate of cell renewal, bringing to the surface a new layer of cells. Chemical peeling reduces wrinkles, blackheads and eliminates acne rashes.

At the same time, it is good to know that a chemical peel can stimulate and increase collagen production. With age, collagen production decreases and collagen fibers begin to deteriorate, so that the appearance of the skin changes and wrinkles start to appear. Starting at the age of 25, collagen starts to diminish at a rate of 1.5% per year. Therefore, chemical peeling treatments have the mentioned advantage, being able to help maintain the youth of the skin for a longer time.

How to perform a chemical peel at Avra Institute?

The chemical peel at Avra is done according to the recommendations of the dermatologist and in each case, in several sessions, according to your skin type and only during the cold season.

A chemical peeling session involves the following steps:

    • removing make-up and cleansing the face;
    • applying on your face the mixture of acids and substances necessary for chemical peeling;
    • waiting for the neutralization which will happen by itself, naturally, within 12 hours, through contact with the natural oils of the skin;
    • at the end of the procedure, apply a sunscreen cream.

How does the recovery period after a chemical peel develop?

For about 30 days, the skin will be more sensitive, so it is necessary to follow exactly the after care instructions given by the specialist.

Superficial chemical exfoliation treatments are easy to access because, as mentioned, they do not attack the skin and, in addition, do not require a long recovery time.

You will leave the Avra clinic with a fresh, visibly rejuvenated complexion and you will be able to resume your daily routine immediately. It is important, however, to follow the recommendations of specialists, in order to increase the effectiveness of the results of chemical peeling and to reduce, as much as possible, redness and peeling of the skin.

Here’s what you should consider:

  • It is contraindicated to use other exfoliating substances (such as retinol, other acids, other methods of mechanical exfoliation, scrub particles) 3-5 days before and after your chemical peel session.
  • It is necessary to apply sunscreen on the skin both in the morning and once every three or four hours, during the day, regardless of the environment in which you work.
  • After a chemical peel, the products you will be able to use must have moisturizing properties and not be aggressive with your skin.
  • It is important to avoid activities that cause excessive sweating in the first 24 hours after having the chemical peel.
  • Don’t forget to hydrate well!

Benefits of a chemical peeling procedure

Chemical exfoliation of the skin actually involves a peeling process, following the administration of a special treatment. In this way, the damaged or dead cells are being removed, making room for new and healthy cells.

This procedure is called cell renewal. Accelerating the process of cell renewal, with the help of chemical exfoliation, allows the skin to recover, reducing the signs of aging, burns caused by sun exposure, but also other residual substances.

Many people are afraid of chemical peels, thinking it is painful. But this information about chemical exfoliation is false. Superficial chemical peeling is usually an easy and bearable treatment. The skin is not damaged as a result of such treatment. You will experience, rather, an increased sensitivity of the skin, for a while, but the specialist will recommend the methods of protection and care, after a chemical peel.

Moreover, if you are afraid that you could leave the chemical peeling session with reddened skin, you should know that the chemical peeling treatment performed at Avra Institute ensures a bright, healthy complexion and a minimal discomfort, and a level of peeling almost unnoticeable.
